Omegaman's Political Topics

A little about myself politically

Disclaimer: I do not claim to be particularly knowledgeable on the topic of politics. In fact, I feel particularly ignorant. There are questionnaires online, that are designed to test your knowledge on the topic of politics, when I take them, I am always in the upper 10%, usually in the upper 5% of the country. That is not to say that I am a smart person politically, it just shows that most people are politically ignorant. That sad fact, explains a lot about our political condition as a country. Frankly, I find it miraculous, that we are not worse off, and I mean that in all seriousness. It is hard for me to think that the U.S. is the place that it is, apart from God's intervention to protect us from ourselves, at least to some degree.
There are also questionnaires online, to help you determine where you are politically. Now, on these, I tend to score pretty much in the middle, yet I consider myself to be fiscally conservative and socially moderate. On that point, I am a cross between being a freedom lover, and recognizing that freedom can equal disorder. To me, personal freedom for all equals anarchy, the moral equivalent of rebellion, something the Bible calls lawlessness. If I trusted people to behave, I would register on the side of maximum freedom. Instead, I am a law and order guy, but to many laws, too much government is also not the solution, because governments are run by people who make mistakes, and can be seduced by authority, so my yearning for the ideal, is tempered by my sense of reality.

My results on one such test is as follows:

To give you a idea of how I compare with others you might have an opinion of, this is offered:

Though I think I am fiscally right of the result, I will accept it as an indicator that I am not an extremist, and hold balanced positions. However, I assert the claim that I am not like a lot of moderates who are moderate because they are indecisive or clueless. I make an effort to think things through, to be informed, and be guided by rational conclusions guided by fact. I have very  strong opinions, in spite of how my position on the graph may appear.

All of this is to serve as a political biographical sketch, so that you have some idea where I am coming from in the positions I present in the following articles. I also admit, that in a few cases, my conclusions have been wrong, I do not hide from my mistakes, I admit them and learn from them, keep that in mind as you read, that I may not hold the same positions as when they were written.
